Welcome to the Norrish Octagon House
The Octagon House in Hastings, MN, is part of the Historic Downtown Hastings District established by the US Department of the Interior. This classic house was built in 1857 as a part of the housing fad developed by Oscar Fowler. Originally built for the Claflin family, John F. Norrish purchased the home in the late 19th century, occupying the home until the mid 1940s. The home was then purchased and remodeled into a 5 unit apartment building. In 2014, the property was acquired by John and Lorena Phelps and is currently undergoing an extensive restoration process to return the house to original single family use.
Located one block from the Mississippi River, the Octagon House enjoys a beautiful view of river life and activities, from pleasure boating to river commerce. The cupola located on the roof of this unique house affords a wonderful scenic overlook to enjoy. Old downtown Hastings is two blocks east of the house, which makes shopping and dining only a short walk away.
